Nelspruit hunt down Pumbas

The home team scored eight tries

Nelspruit Rugby Club came out guns blazing in their first competitive match since the end of the 2019 season, defeating the Pumbas of Hoedspruit 48-13 at home on Saturday.

Nelspruit scored eight tries to the Pumbas’s two and were simply too strong for the Bosveld boys.

Struass Strydom, Ruan du Toit, Xolani Mazibuko, Inga Ferreira, Sizwe Mkhonto (2) and Tiaan Vermeulen (2) scored tries for the home team.

Janrico Vermeulen kicked four conversions.

For the Pumbas, Victor Swan and Nigel Williams claimed tries. Williams kicked one penalty.

The second team of Nelspruit Rugby Club secured a convincing 67-5 win over the Pumbas II.

Nelspruit III won 20-17 against Malelane I in a friendly match.

On Saturday, Nelspruit will travel to Barberton for both teams’ second matches in the league. The Pumbas will host White River Rugby Club in Hoedspruit.
