Player of the Year Award safe Heugh’s hands

The 2021/22 home and away strips were launched at the event

TS Galaxy Football Club rewarded the galaxy of stars in style in Kameelrivier on Sunday.

The Rockets excelled in the debut season in top-flight football, attaining some of the big results in the league.

The club had four players that represented their respective national teams at different levels.

Ethan Brooks and Masilake Phohlongo steered Bafana Bafana to Cosafa Cup glory, while MacBeth Mahlangu was with the South African u/23 side that competed in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The trio was rewarded for their vigilant displays with The Rockets in the ceremony that was held at Cluster Hall.

Phohlongo walked away with the Goal of the Season Gong for his scorcher against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium at the start of the year. He rose highest in the box to hit home a thumping header.

Brooks and Mahlangu scooped the Young Prospect of the Season Award.

Mahlangu was also nominated for the PSL Young Player of the Season. Lindokuhle Mbatha and Mxolisi Macuphu won the Golden Boot Awards for their five strikes each.

The two veterans were pivotal for The Rockets in the previous season. They did not only notch up goals, but contributed with assists. Mbatha made five and Macuphu conjured up four assists.

Marlon Heugh was the biggest winner of the day. He was voted the Player of the Season.

He was not present to receive his accolades. He recently completed a successful ankle operation and is set to be out for a few weeks. TS Galaxy captain Pogiso Sanoka received the award on his behalf.

For all his diligence and never-say-die attitude in the field of play, Mlungisi Mbunjana walked away with the Most Dedicated Player of the Season Award.

Njabulo Sukazi scooped the chairman’s award.

At the age of 21, Sukazi performed her job as a team manager with distinction and honour. It was her first season in the elite league. Her achievement coincided with Women’s Month.

TS Galaxy FC unveiled eight new players for the upcoming season at the same function.

Among the new recruits were Mohammed Anas, Igor Makitan, Vasilije Kolak, Marate Ndienguene, Augustine Kwem, Mthobisi Mngomezulu, Xolani Slawula and Zolani Nkombelo.
