This sport is growing throughout South Africa with various provincial/regional leagues established.
The Lowveld league is also spawning. Thirty-one anglers took to the water at Da Gama in a variety of small craft. Only 13 anglers took part in the first competition at Lake Longmere on August 14.
Small craft fishing is a fairly new competitive sport in the Lowveld and is more affordable than mainstream bass leagues.
The catch, photo, release method is used.
Anglers are required to use an official measuring trough, on which a catch is placed and photographed.
The results are determined by the total length of the anglers’ five-fish limit.
The third leg of the Lowveld Small Craft Bass league will be held on October 9 at Witklip Dam.
