Matthew Andrew in a class of his own in Longmere Dam

Annabelle Davel won the women's 5km race

Matthew Andrew led from start to finish to win the 5km Age Group 2 Open Water Swim at Longmere Dam on Sunday.

The Midwit swimmer clocked 01:08;37. He also claimed the 3km win in 40;29.00.

It was a tight race for second place in the 5km event with Andrew’s teammate, Leson Visagie, finishing in 01:15;09, just five seconds ahead of Curro Swimming Academy’s (CSA) Dian de Klerk.

Leson was also third in the 3km race in 44;10.93.

The races were held in a steady drizzle and 14 degrees Celsius air temperature.

Midwit claimed the 5km women’s title with Annabelle Davel winning in 01:16;21. She was also the 3km champion in 44;44.39.

Lucy Freidenthal of Uniswim was second in the 5km in 01:17;16 and Midwit’s Kathleen Welsh third in 01:23;23.

Lucy also took the 3km second place in 45;05.83.

Jetro Piso of Uniswin was second in the 3km men’s race in 44;10.00.

CSA’s Michele Esterhuizen took third place in the women’s 3km event in 48;01.43.
