The annual Rooikat Golf Day, the biggest company charity golf day in the Lowveld, was played in high spirits at Mbombela Golf Club last Thursday.
A field of 176 golfers of varying skill levels took to the course from early in the morning.
The four-ball alliance, scrambled drive, sequential putting format levelled the playing field; the talented club golfers and driving range warriors all got in on the action.
The players were well hydrated by the excellent tee sponsors. Mbombela Golf Club looked like a festival ground with sponsors’ flags, banners and branding everywhere.
Pedro Dias, Pedro Germano, Rhyno Schilling and Warren Morgan won the competition with 67 points.
Pottie Potgieter, Hennie Skorbinski, André Scholtz and MJ Mentz were second on 59, and Reyno Kruger, Johan Pretorius, Roelf Kotze and Johan Hattingh third on 58.
The funds raised will be donated to the Carli Breytenbach Trust Fund.
“This was Rooikat’s day to say thank you to all our customers. We invite them to come and play. We get all our suppliers onboard. It’s a fun day. There were prizes for the top 29 four-balls. This golf day is by invitation only. That is why it is so popular. Nobody can buy a four-ball or tee box,” said Johan Breytenbach of Rooikat.
The event did not stop when the last four-ball finished. The camaraderie continued into the evening with a prize-giving, relationship building and much discussion about “that chip shot” and “that 40-foot putt”.
The Rooikat Golf Day was once again a huge success. It remains the highlight of the Lowveld’s golf day calendar.
