The action was fast and furious at the Winter War held at the SANDF Shonolanga Hall in Mbombela on Saturday night.
The martial arts tournament was hosted by the White River and Nelspruit Gryphons and sanctioned by Ring Contact Fighting Arts International.
In the main bout, Brian Ntiwane of Mamelodi Fight Club faced Alwyn Deetlefs of the Gryphons.
The Mamelodi martial artist is an experienced professional and went into
the octagon with a record of 11 fights and 10 wins, seven of those by technical knockout. Lowvelder Deetlefs was making his pro debut.

The super featherweight (u/63kg) fight went the 10-round distance.
Ntiwane and Deetlefs’ fitness was tested to the limit in a non-stop-action, full-contact, professional national fight.
Ntiwane won the national belt on a unanimous points decision.
Deetlefs can be proud of going the distance against this seasoned professional. He held his own and never gave up.

• Veteran male open millennium (90kg): Jonathan Johnson (White River Gryphons) defeated Willem Bouwer (Warrior’s Way Bloemfontein) by knockout.
• Senior male open millennium (82kg): Philip Jacobs (White River Gryphons) defeated Gerhard van der Westhuizen (Pretoria Katanas) on points.
• Senior male open semi-contact (+90kg): Neels Calitz-du Plessis (Welkom Katanas) defeated Raynard du Toit (Brits Katanas)
on points.
• Senior male open full-contact catchweight (72kg): Edward Ndou (Brits Katanas) defeated Learnmore Momberume (Triple Threat Roodepoort) on points.
• Senior male open full millennium (+90kg): Bafana Mayisela (Brits Katanas) defeated Riaan Visser (Lydenburg Ratels) on points.
