Lydenburg golfers compete in Mpumalanga Junior Open

The next Mp Junior Golf event will be on May 7 at Walker Park Golf Club in Evander.

Bea Breedt (17) from Middelburg led the pack of junior golf players during the Mpumalanga Junior Open on Sunday April 23. Seventy juniors from across the province participated. Bea was the overall winner, and scored an excellent 69, three under par, during the tournament at Lydenburg Golf Club.

Jurie Grobler, vice president Lowveld region Mpumalanga Junior Golf, congratulated the players who competed and highlighted the importance of developing their skills from a young age. JC van der Heever, president of the Mpumalanga Junior Golf Foundation, handed over the prizes.

The Lydenburg juniors who excelled were Christian Rothman, Miné Watermeyer, Regardt Marais and Mickayla van Wyk. Mpumalanga Junior Golf hosts 12 to 14 tournaments a year, including the Highveld Open and the Lowveld Open. All juniors under the age of 19 who are members of golf clubs and have an official South African Golf Association handicap are welcome to compete.
