Lydenburg athletes qualify for the World Biathle and Triathle Championships

The athletes compete in shooting, running and swimming disciplines during these championships.

Four athletes from Laerskool Lydenburg qualified for the World Biathle and Triathle Championships in Bali, Indonesia. They are Giann Wessels, Estevan Wessels, Zoe Janse van Vuuren and Zoan Janse van Vuuren.

They competed in the South African Modern Pentathlon Triathle and Biathle Championships on September 23 in Tshwane to qualify for the world championships. Giann finished second in the male U15 triathle in 08:37: 58.

He placed third in the biathle in a time of 07:03:65. Zoe placed second in the biathle and triathle race for girls U13. Her time for the biathle was 05:58:06, and 03:41:62 in the triathle Estevan placed third in the U11 triathle for boys in a time 04:16:74.

He placed fifth in the biathle in a time of 03:58:88. Zoan placed 12th in the U11 boys biathle with a time of 04:23:73, and sixth in the triathle event with a time of 04:42:54.

Triathle and biathle are both pentathlon sub-discipline Olympic events and are governed by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee. Triathle includes shooting, running and swimming, whereas biathle is a running and swimming event. Running and swimming distances differ for each age group.

The world championships will be held from November 1 to 4 in Nusa Dua in Bali, Indonesia.
