Lowvelder Golf Challenge reaches six of the best
The race to the top of the standings is getting tight as only three events are left for the year.
The sixth Lowvelder Golf Challenge was held with great success in August, leaving only three more to go for the year.
Last Wednesday, August 27, at Mbombela Golf Club, was the perfect day out for golf as the winter season continues to wind down. A host of Lowveld golfers took part again, with Octopi Smart Solutions and Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys on board as sponsors of the series.
Leon de Kock was the top golfer during the sixth edition of the year, carding 42 points to take the win. Ettiene Lilford found himself in second place on 41, followed by Corrie van Niekerk in third on 40 points. At the top of the overall leaderboard, Rian Joubert also scored 40 points, which was enough to keep him top of the pops, followed by Van Niekerk.

The first five rounds saw the lead of the series change hands on a few occasions, but after the fifth round it was Joubert who returned to the top of the overall standings for the year, where he now remains.

On each day the competition is played in an individual Stableford format. To contend for the title, the players must compete in at least five out of the nine competition days, as their five best scores will count towards the overall standings after the grand final, which will be hosted on November 20.

The next 2025 Lowvelder Golf Challenge will be held on September 17. Players are responsible for booking their own rounds and carts by contacting the club on 013 744 0952.
Eligibility for prizes requires attending the prize-giving ceremony. Participants must be affiliated with a club and hold an official handicap.

1. Rian Joubert – 178 points
2. Corrie van Niekerk – 177
