Young golfer ranked 23rd in the country

Sixteen-year-old, Drikus Joubert has an impressive list of accomplishments.

In just over two years as a competitive player, he has had quite a few wins to his name, has been awarded full provincial colours for the second consecutive year, and has been crowned Mpumalanga’s player of the year in the A-division.

What’s more, he’s also the province’s junior golfer of the year, since the awards ceremony in Middelburg on Sunday.

His maiden win of the year was the Lowveld Open and days later he held the Jock Open trophy. He finished on a five under par.

Drikus has been selected to represent at the interprovincial tournament mid-December at Benoni Country Club.

In Middelburg, he got a gold award for an 80 to 100 per cent attendance (more than 20 tournaments played over the past year).

He is only the second 15-year-old player in the history of Mpumalanga Junior Golf to book his spot in the IPT. The 21-year-old professional golfer Thriston Lawrence was the first back in 2013 to do so.

The youngster is ranked number one in the province for u/17 as well as for u/19. On the latest South African Golf Association ranks, he places 23rd for u/17 in the country.

Next up is the Joburg Junior Open at Randpark Golf Club on December 13 and 14.
