Martial artists’ hard work pays off at Lowveld Open

Wolves Academy won 111 medals

One hundred and twenty martial arts students participated in the 2022 Lowveld Open Martial Arts Championships at the SANDF Shonalanga Hall on Saturday.

AbiGym (Lydenburg), Choegang Taekwon-Do (Lydenburg), Lowveld Fight Club (Barberton), Prosperity Dojang (Brackenfell), Shadow Phoinix Kickboxing (eMalahleni), White Tigers (Bloemfontein), White River Kickboxing, Wits Club (Johannesburg) and Wolves Academy were the clubs that took part.

The disciplines in which they competed were points sparring, continuous sparring, open-hand forms, weapon forms and BJJ grappling.

The results per club were as follows:
AbiGym (eight students participated)
• Two gold medals
• Four silver medals
• Three bronze medals
• Total: nine medals
Choegang Taekwon-Do (12 students participated)
• Five gold medals
• 13 silver medals
• Eight bronze medals
• Total: 26 medals
Lowveld Fight Club (eight students participated)
• Six gold medals
• Four silver medals
• Two bronze medals
• Total: 12 medals
Prosperity Dojang (one student participated)
• One gold medal
• One silver medal
• Total: two medals
Shadow Phoinix Kickboxing (eight students participated)
• Two gold medals
• Eight silver medals
• Six bronze medals
• Total: 16 medals
White Tigers (one student participated)
• Two gold medals
• Two bronze medals
• Total: four medals
White River Kickboxing (12 students participated)
• 14 gold medals
• Seven silver medals
• Three bronze medals
• Total: 24 medals
Wits (16 students participated)
• 14 gold medals
• 19 silver medals
• Two bronze medals
• Total: 35 medals
Wolves Academy (54 students participated)
• 53 gold medals
• 39 silver medals
• 19 bronze medals
• Total: 111 medals.
