Runners take 2024 Fast Race 3-in-1 by storm

The 2024 Nelspruit Marathon Club Fast Race 3-in-1 marathon was a raging success once more, with hordes of runners crossing the finish line at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday March 23, with Msawenkosi Buthelezi crowned the winner.

Msawenkosi Buthelezi of Volksrust Marathon Club won the 2024 Nelspruit Marathon Club Fast Race 3-in-1 marathon on Saturday March 23.

The 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km races all finished at Mbombela Stadium. Amos Kemboi from Kenya held a 21-second lead over Buthelezi and Stimos Ntuli of Middelburg Marathon Club at the halfway mark.

Ntuli fell off his pace, and at 32km, Kemboi had increased his lead over Buthelezi to 71 seconds. But Buthelezi was the stronger of the two and took the lead on the home stretch to claim first place in 02:21:57. Kemboi was second in 02:22:19, and Ntuli third in 02:22:35.

The women’s race was won by Monicah Mengich of Nedbank in 02:53:39. Second place went to Marelize Retief of Impala Marathon Club in 02:54:31, and third to Chrizell Roberts of Nedbank Gauteng North in 03:10:50.

• Men 40-49: Lovers Hlatshwayo (Nedbank LVCC) – 02:32:14
• Men 50-59: Sibusiso Vilane (Born to Win) – 03:02:14
• Men 60-69: Jerry Maseko (Nedbank LVCC) – 03:19:00
• Women 40-49: Wendy Bosch (City of Mbombela Marathon Club) – 03:36:50
• Women 50-59: Madeleine Whitehair (Nedbank LVCC) – 03:36:46
• Women 60-69: Sandy McLagan (Nedbank LVCC) – 04:16:18.
