Participants pick a paddle and have a ball playing pickleball in Mbombela
Nelspruit Tennis Club now boasts four pickleball courts and players are invited to utilise them.
A fun pickleball day was held at Nelspruit Tennis Club (NTC) on Saturday, March 2.
The event was hosted by the recently established Nelspruit Pickleball Club to introduce the sport to the Lowveld.
Four pickleball courts have been painted on one of NTC’s outer courts and are available to club members and the public to use.
A court measures 6.1m by 13.4m for both singles and doubles matches. The pickleball net is 86cm high at its centre and 91cm high at the sides of the court. Players use solid, smooth-surfaced paddles, typically made of wood or a composite. Paddles may be not be longer than 43cm. The combined length and width of a paddle may not exceed 61cm.

The fun day was attended by 20 adults and six children.
The participants were given an introduction to the sport and explained the rules and tactics. Thereafter, social doubles, and later a mini doubles tournament, were played.
The winners were Yusuf and Imaan Packery, and the runners-up were Charlene Lombard and Arina Pieterse.
