IN PHOTOS: Swimmers conquer open water challenge at Ngodwana Dam

The conditions were perfect for open water swimming.

Eight Mpumalanga swimmers qualified for the SA National Open Water Championships to be held in Jeffreys Bay from March 6 to 8, 2026. They qualified in the 3km event at the Mpumalanga Open Water 1 event at Ngodwana Dam on Sunday, October 12.

Arvin Massih of Endorfins was the first across the finish in the 3km race. He clocked a time of 40:32:86.

Anja Buitendach and Kaamil Carimo, both of Uniswim, were second and third in 40:34:66 and 43:34:99 respectively.

In the 1.5km swim, Emma Roberts of Uniswim Uplands achieved the fastest time of 25:18:87. She was followed by Zayne Glorioso of Curro Swimming Academy in 26:13:94, and Neo Morabe of Uniswim in 26:14:73.

The eight swimmers who qualified for the nationals are Arvin, Anja, Kaamil, Kyle Massih, Marcus Burger, Emma Terblanche, Lara Janse van Rensburg and Ciska Ferreira.
