IN PHOTOS: Lowveld men rally at cancer-awareness padel contest

The event was a great success and padel players thoroughly enjoyed their time on the courts.

A number of men laced up and hit the courts at Padel 24 Nelspruit on Tuesday, November 18, to raise awareness of men’s cancers.

The evening event was organised by CANSA Lowveld to promote men’s health and cancer awareness, and followed a successful women’s event held last month in support of breast cancer awareness.

“Cancers don’t only affect women. They significantly affect men too, and we’re grateful to see so many men here tonight,” said Rinella Jansen van Vuuren, CANSA Lowveld’s sustainability co-ordinator, during the opening.

Twenty-four players competed across two divisions in a fun Americano format. Despite a few weather-related disruptions, participants enjoyed the evening, and the competition was played in excellent spirit.

The division winners were:

Advanced:
1. Anton Grote
2. Frans Boshoff
3. Justin van Staden.

Intermediate:
1. Stephan Potgieter
2. Stefan de Villiers
3. Hylton Cruse.
