The race was the first of the 2026 road race calendar.

Some 347 runners completed the 2026 Quanis 10km in Mbombela on Saturday, January 17.

The heavy rains over the past week made for wet and slippery conditions, but this did not deter the competitors in the first official Lowveld road race of the year. The 4.9km fun run and 10km race started and finished at the Communio Church.

Abednico Mashaba of Uniwisp clocked 00:32:09 to take first place.

Samuel Mathabatha of Bella’s Athletics Club was second in 00:32:25, and Sizwe Mwale (junior category winner) third in 00:34:06.

Nomvula Sithole, now running in the colours of the host club, Ngodwana Marathon Club, won the women’s race in 00:39:51 and was 13th overall.

Nonhlanhla Fortein of Bella’s finished second in 00:42:58, and Philile Sindane third in 00:42:59.
