For the first time in five months, the 2026 Lowvelder Golf Challenge has a new log leader. Danie Bezuidenhout moved to the top after the March edition of the competition.

The most recent round, played on Wednesday, July 22, saw John-Ross Tapson shooting to the top from sixth place.

Tapson’s 36 Stableford points give him a total of 183. Bezuidenhout scored 33 and dropped to second on 175 points.

JJ van Rensburg scored 24 and dropped from second to third with a total of 169.

Round 6 winner

Corrie van Niekerk won the sixth round with 45 Stableford points. He leapt from 21st to 11th on the log, with a 161 total. His score was also the best of any competitor so far in the 2026 competition.

Christo Smith was the runner-up on 40 and moved from 14th to ninth place on the log.

Heinrich Coomans claimed third place, also on 40 points.

Tapson’s eight-point lead over second-placed Bezuidenhout, and his in-form game of 39, 36 and 36 points over the last three editions of the Lowvelder Golf Challenge, puts him in good stead to retain the lead after the seventh round.

This will be played at Mbombela Golf Club on August 19.

Prize eligibility requires attendance at the prize-giving ceremony.

All participants must be affiliated with a club and hold an official handicap.
