Swimmers rake in the medals at invitational
Uplands College swimmers had the chance to hit the water with some of the country's best at the St Peter's College Invitation Gala on February 5.
Schools such as Hoërskool Helpmekaar, St John’s, St Domics and Penryn College were represented at the gala held at the Wahoo Aquatics Centree in Johannesburg.
Uplands swimmers who achieved spots on the podium were:
• Kayla Schefermann with gold for girls u/14 50-metre butterfly, silver for junior girls 100m IM, silver for girls u/14 50-metres breaststroke
• Mariska Bam with bronze for girls u/16 100-metre backstroke
• Landau van Rooyen with silver for boys 100-metre freestyle, silver for boys 100-metre breaststroke
• Tamryn Hawley with silver for girls open 50-metre butterfly, bronze for girls open 100-metre freestyle
• Matthew Ives with silver for boys open 50-metre butterfly, silver for Boys open 100-metre freestyle.
The u/16 8×50-metre mixed freestyle relay, open 4×50-metre mixed medley relay and open 8×50-metre mixed freestyle relay teams all won bronze medals.
