Edison seals the game for Mapetla
Star player Edison Setati scored the only goal of the match midway in the second half
GA-MOKGOTHO – Playing in their new regalia donated by Congress of the People (Cope), Mapetla FC won the Mokgotho Tournament. The team in green defeated their arch-rivals Lefahla Naughty Boys (LNB) 1-0 in the final played at the community’s sports grounds last Sunday.
Star player Edison Setati scored the winning goal and the only one of the match in the second half to help his team win the R2 000 winner’s price. He capitalised from a lapse of concentration of Lefahla’s defence and easily slotted in a goal from a brilliant cross by Monisi Mogofe. Keeper of LNB Mmusho Machubeng was left with no chance as the ball flared into the empty poles.
LNB tried in vain to get an equalising goal with winger Motlalepula Mametja, hitting the cross bar in the 80th minute. Lefahla missed countless opportunities in the dying minutes of the match; goal scoring seemed to be the team’s main problem.
In the earlier games Mapetla walloped Cope Masters 5-0 to reach the finals, while LNB defeated Dark City Movers 5-4 on penalties after the teams drew 1-1 in 90 minutes of play.
“We worked so hard for this tournament and I am happy my boys proved to the Cope members that they deserve the kit donated. It was challenging to play Lefahla in the final, they know our weak points and they also play a hard tackling, physical brand of football,” coach of Mapetla FC Tshepo Machubeng told Steelburger/Lydenburg News.
