October 1: Sixteen people died on Mpumalanga’s roads over the weekend. The black weekend started as seven people were killed in a head-on collision.

October 22: The two suspects of having raped two female guests at a Guest House in Hazyview, were apprehended after two weeks. Their arrest follows a robbery which occurred at Kruger Park Lodge.

October 25: The Mozambican army staged an attack on the rebel group, Renamo, and took over its military base in central city. In response, Renamo attacked a police station in Maringue, about 1 000 kilometres from Maputo.
