The SMS language for funky is MG3 – yes! Immediately available at launch will be the top of the range MG3 Style priced at R179 900, with standard high-tech convenience features including cruise control, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers as well as reverse parking sensors.
Following in two months is the mid-range MG3 Wired (depending on the exchange rate, pricing will be around R165 000) which includes fabric seats as opposed to the leather of the Style, black and red interior with silver detailing, air conditioning (all models), electric windows front and rear (all models) leather MG-design steering wheel with red stitching (steering wheel audio controls standard for the Style), and a host of other features over and above the entry model specifications.
The entry-level MG3 also follows in November and should break cover at around R145 000 (depending on the exchange rate) and will have a full complement of features found in all the models which is quite extensive for a small car.
All models are powered by a sporty 78kW petrol engine with a five- speed manual gearbox and have the same great MG chassis designed to make driving the MG3 a bit more fun than the average small car.
The nimble four-cylinder offers frugal consumption for a five-seater hatch with this size engine – 7,5litres/100km in short-distance urban driving conditions, a mere 4,9litres/100km out on the open road, with an attractive average of only 5,8litres/100km in the combined cycle.
The standard equipment list will surprise everybody. All models have an optional full-size spare wheel and smoker’s pack (ashtray and cigarette lighter) available.
All MG models, including the new MG3, have a three-year/100 000 km warranty with a two-year/60 000km service plan, including free AA Roadside Assist for 12 months.
“The MG3 gives the market something really new: a stylish, highly practical, small car with many options for personalisation that makes it fun to drive, fun to buy and fun to own,” says MG South Africa general manager for CMH brands, Derrick Bishop.
“MG became world famous for building distinctive, British, small, fun cars at a remarkably affordable price that owners can personalise to their own individual style. The MG3 is the new small, modern MG that allows a new generation of people to have fun with their MG.”
