The Spyder epitomises true exclusivity

No more than 25 Esperante Spyder and Spyder GT sports cars will be produced to commemorate the company’s motorsport heritage and Panoz sports cars of the past 25 years.

Production will be limited to ensure they remain special and exclusive and in keeping with Panoz LLC’s goal of creating most exclusive, American custom-made, hand-built sports cars.

The 2015 Esperante Spyder has the proven and lightweight SPF (Superplastic Forming, commonly referred to as ‘super formed’) aluminum body revolutionised on previous Esperante models and a process that has been used by some of the world’s most elite vehicle manufacturers.

Panoz was the first US auto manufacturer to use superformed aluminum panels for its bodies when it created the 1992 Panoz Roadster. In 1996 it added an aluminum chassis and an all-aluminum modular V8 engine to create the Panoz AIV Roadster, which became America’s first Aluminum Intensive Vehicle (AIV). The use of aluminum, carbon fibre and other composite materials, as well as other powertrain, suspension, interior weight-savings measures, paid off. The Esperante Spyder weighs just 1 419kg. It takes only 3,7 seconds (estimated) to reach 0-100km/h on its way to a top test-track speed of 276km/h.

It can cover the quarter mile in 12,5 seconds. While visually an evolution of the classic Esperante shape, the Spyder is essentially new, from engine and transmission packages and suspension and brake systems to the luxurious interior and functional carbon-fibre cockpit structure. The 2015 Panoz Esperante SpyderKey features include the car’s namesake Spyder open-cockpit, two-seat configuration with its visually dynamic carbon-fibre panel that conceals the functional twin roll hoops, and a new, shorter windshield reinforced by tubular steel A-pillars featuring an all-new carbon-fibre windshield frame.

The entirely new and luxurious full-leather interior offers more room than the previous models. Customers can personalise the interior to suit their preferences.

Most striking is the all-new leather dash with its state-of-the-art electronic gauge cluster positioned directly in front of the driver. The 10.6-inch ID4Motion digital instrument display features graphic representations of high-tech gauges to monitor the car’s vital systems such as speed, r/min, water temperature, oil pressure, charging, temperature, fuel level, and odometer. It also has two “skins”, allowing the driver to choose between traditional black background graphics or a light-brushed aluminum/silver background.

Powertrain packages ranging from 430 naturally aspirated horsepower to 560 supercharged horsepower are mated to a heavy-duty, close-ratio Tremec® T56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. A six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is available as an option. For those desiring more power, Panoz LLC, with help from Élan Power Products, can custom build engines producing 800-plus horsepower.

At US$179,120 (±R2,1million) the 25th anniversary edition Esperante Spyder and US$204,750 (±R2.4million) (plus destination) for the Spyder GT version, the all-new Esperante continues to herald the Panoz LLC goal of offering its customers true exclusivity, uncompromising performance and outstanding value.
