Bikers put to the test as GS Trophy builds up
The participants in this year’s inaugural GS Trophy were tried and tested from the moment they arrived at the Country Trax venue near Amersfoort.
First they had to set up camp, then brace themselves for the demanding event building on past experience in GS events, like the GS Eco and GS Challenge 1000. The GS Trophy is exclusive to GS owners. During the provincial events three riders were selected to take part in the national event. The skills challenges were exhausting. Camping under the Bluegum trees in the Highveld the very cold weather definitely had a role to play.
The rider fitness, endurance and strength was key to success.
Each challenge was timed and the riders were scored on precision, with points being deducted for putting feet down, stalling, falling and or riding outside the demarcated lines.
During the skills challenge on a planned track laid out by Jan du Toit of country Trax and other instructors, the riders’ balance, manoeuvring, tight cornering and patience were tested to the limits. Allan Muir, a member of the Mpumalanga team said he enjoyed the challenges. “A highlight for me was when the Mpumalanga team won on the Friday evening. In general the events and different challenges were well planned and laid out.”
The inaugural GS Trophy South Africa final will be held in KwaZulu-Natal. The South African GS Trophy Team and the International Ladies team will be introduced at the event in September. Both teams will take part in the International GS Trophy 2016 in Asia.
