Excited riders line up for the ride of their lives
Saturday September 19 started off with a light drizzle but this wasn’t going to stop any of the KMIA enduro competitors from enjoying a tough but exiting ride at the Rudamans Yamaha KMIA Enduro. This was also the last race in the series, consequently championship status in the various classes were up for grabs.
The excited riders lined up and you could see the enthusiasm on their faces as they were getting ready to take on the mountain before them. It was a perfect day for racing and giving it your all. The pros were out to win and keeping one another on their toes.
Customary at these events, riders from as young as four years were also rearing to go. “Amazing how the awesomeness of the sport just sucks you in. This truly is the best family sport by far,” says secretary of the club, Kym Alder!
Barend Erasmus, winner of this event and second in the championships, had this to say about the series: “An extremely well-organised and well-balanced series in the sense that it offers a challenge for both professional and amateur riders. The routes were always well marked and I would not have been able to finish in the position I did, without Rudamans’ support and the Yamaha YZ 250. The Roof is the next challenge in 2015 and, well, I have some aspirations for 2016 inclusive of extreme enduro rides and so forth.”
Johan Mulder, in his first year of competing and with the intention to also do the Roof, had this to say: “The KMIA was really tough. I crashed out with damage to my bike’s radiator. Every event in this series offers different challenges, is superbly organised and extremely enjoyable despite the challenges. Enduro riding, dit vat aan ‘n man se lyf.”
