New features make the XUV 500 more appealing
Mahindra has just introduced the new enhanced version of its XUV 500. At the local launch on October 8 one could easily have mistaken all the red candles and decor in the showroom for a Valentine’s party.
But of course, red is Mahindra’s corporate colour. The showroom exuded excited anticipation while Gene Mathey presented a rundown of all the changes to and new features of the XUV 500.
Mahindra experienced brisk sales of the previous model which was launched in 2011 and provided a good platform for this model to build on.
The XUV 500’s front end is bolder as a result of a new design. This is complemented by a superb execution of the interior finish and fit supported by an all-black leather interior and a large 7-inch full-colour touch screen in the centre stack.
The flagship W8 derivative is equipped with a reverse camera and also comes with integrated satellite navigation with voice prompts.
A three-row seat configuration offers seven seats and the third row can be folded down to accommodate extra luggage space. Active and passive safety systems include ABE, EBD, and ESP to name but a few.
The new XUV retained the 2,2-litre mHawk engine developing 103kW and 330Nm. Fuel consumption, as per the manufacturer, is given as 6,5litres/100km. I know these figures are quite possible as it has been proven by Victor Uys, one of Autodealer Lowveld’s regular readers. Victor drives the previous generation XUV 500.
Mahindra Nelspruit is waiting for a second batch of XUV 500s. Its first stock sold out even before the official launch – with prices starting at R262 995 it’s no surprise though. Book a test drive sooner rather than later.
