Dinosaurs to come alive at Riverside Mall
The awe-inspiring exhibition of realistic dinosaur models is heading to the city later in February.
Entertaining, awe-inspiring and educational to boot: such is the exhibition of realistic dinosaur models heading to the city. In only 10 days the exciting Dinos Alive will start its exhibition at Riverside Mall. It will run from February 27 to April 3.
Each model dinosaur is built using advanced animatronics (allowing it to animate) and is modelled after its real-life counterpart. The likes of the winged pteranodon, towering diplodocus and horn-rimmed stegosaurus are popular
attractions at the show. In addition, children can enjoy the fossil displays, play around with a mock excavation pit and enjoy a T-Rex ride.
These realistic dinosaurs will make you feel like you have gone back in time, thanks to their lifelike movements and textures, and the sounds they make, too. Parents and children can also look forward to face-painting, a jumping castle, drawing tables, Playstation games, a cafe and merchandise shop, making it a perfect outing for the entire family.
Etienne Schlechter, director of Expo Africa and organiser of the event, believes kids are fascinated by the realistic dinosaurs on show. “The reception has been great.
Since our first showing in Cape Town in 2014, children have loved every minute of the show. It’s very rewarding to see, and we take pride in the fact that our exhibition is a great learning tool for young students.”
The exhibition at Riverside Mall will feature five information boards that explain the three historic ages of the dinosaur: Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous, as well as a look at life before and after these reptiles roamed earth.
Schlechter believes that adults will get a lot of joy from the show, too. “The exhibition has plenty of familiar faces, like T-Rex and trieceratops. But you might be able to spot some more obscure names, like the spinosaurus and ankylosaurus.”
Dinos Alive will be open seven days a week from 09:00 to 19:00 at the mall, with last entries admitted at 17:00 each day. Tickets are R100 for adults, R80 for children (children under two years of age can enter free), R50 for school groups of 20 or more per child (includes free entry for one teacher). Six puzzle pieces featuring dinosaurs will be placed in the editions of February 19, 23 and 26 as well as March 1, 4 and 8.
