Re-elections at the Nelspruit CPF AGM

MBOMBELA – Kevin Pillay has once again been re-elected as chairman of the Nelspruit Community Policing Forum (CPF) at the organisation’s annual general meeting on Tuesday.
The reinstatement comes after Pillay had stated prior in the AGM that he would not be standing again due to national work commitments. He currently serves as the provincial chairman, as well as the national treasurer of the CPFs.
“If the community wants me back, I will accept,” he said of his nomination during the meeting at Emnotweni Sun Hotel.
Not everyone, however, welcomed the re-election, stating Pillay’s inability to attend many meetings as a result of his commitments. Regardless, with 20 votes over his co-nominee John Meintjies’ 17, he won.
Meintjies was re-elected as deputy chairman. The meeting stalled a bit after attendees’ refusal to stand for nomination for the secretary position. Despite calls for more women in the CPF, all of them asked to stand for election-cited work commitments as reason for their refusal to run.
Devon McCullough, though not present, accepted his nomination via WhatsApp and was elected as secretary, to be assisted by Capt Ronelle Bekker as his deputy secretary.
Provincial delegate assisting in the elections, Bheka Mazibuko, called for two more positions to be added to the Nelspruit CPF as per the national constitution of the forum.
The positions are for an organiser and a public relations officer. The latter duties were performed by Capt Dawie Pretorius in his capacity as police spokesman, something that, according to Mazibuko, should be performed by a community member in the CPF.
ation commander, Brig Gerrie Agenbag, called for an amendment of the current CPF constitution so that provision for the two positions can be made and allow for a treasurer to be elected as well.
The new executive currently has no treasurer. The current executive replaces Cor van Rooyen, Jo Koster, TJ Maré and Victor Pillay.
