Stars opened the scoring from a spot kick via Thabo Kubheka in the early stages of the first half, but Barcelona reacted immediately and scored three goals in less than 15 minutes.

It was Wandile Gwebu who equalised for Barcelona 2022. Senzo “Mtera” Msithini then made it 2-1.

Msithini, who was giving Stars a difficult time for the duration of the game, grabbed the third just before the interval.

At the resumption of the second half, Barcelona 2022 continued where they left off as Teboo Mkhwanazi made it 4-1.

But after scoring their fourth goal, Barcelona 2022 took their feet off the pedal and allowed Stars, who were down and out, back to the game.

They reduced the deficit to a two-goal cushion when Keletso Ncongwane scored to make it 4-2. That goal seemed to inspire the Emjindini Trust-based side, as they grabbed their third of the game via Jealous Madonsela to make it 4-3.

But Msithini dashed Stars’ hopes of coming back into the game when he extended his side’s lead to 5-3.
Musa Nkosi then made it 6-3 for Barcelona 2022.

Madonsela restored some pride to his side when he scored on the stroke of full-time to make it 6-4.

This coming Saturday, Barcelona 2022 will host Liverpool at the same venue. Kick-off is at 15:00.

Stars will host Baggio United at Somhlolo Stadium in Emjindini Trust. Kick-off is also at 15:00.
