Sethu is her school’s top athlete
Acacia Tshitumbi was awarded junior victrix lodorum for her consistent performance.
The young athletes from Nelspruit Primary School managed to secure 14 gold medals at this year’s Hi-Tech Interprimary athletics meeting over the weekend.
Acacia, who competed in the girls u/9 events, managed to take gold in the 80-metre race, in a time of 12,47 seconds, closely followed by her teammate Vutomi Mboweni.
Continuing their performance, Acacia took the first place in the 60-metre race, with Vutomi finishing in second with a time of 9,66 seconds.

Siya Khoza, running in the boys u/10 70-metre hurdles event, managed a convincing first place in a time of 13,5 seconds.
In the final of the boys u/11 high jump, Boitumelo Mateya managed a win with a height of 1,28 metres.
Achieving first place in the girls u/10 100-metre race, Sethu Mathebula continued the school’s domination of the track events.
Siya managed to take the gold in the boys u/10 100-metre race, closely followed by teammate Ntando Ngobe in second.

Albert van Putten, sport organiser at the school, said he is very pleased with the performance of the athletes.
“With the input from our new athletics coach, and local runner Folavio Sehohle, we have seen a definite improvement in the performances of both field and track athletes,” said Van Putten, who added that the boys u/13 relay team managed their fifth consecutive win of the season.
“As a team they have competed in five relay events this season, and they have won each of these,” he said.
Van Putten also said he wants to thank all the coaches from Nelspruit Primary School for their hard work and devotion. “We have significantly improved our results this year, and we are looking forward to seeing how these athletes progress for the remainder of the season,” he said.
