PREVIEW: Housing project residents mired in confusion
Uncertainty and fear of the future are troubling the residents of the controversial Chinese Project Houses in Glory Hill outside Graskop.
GRASKOP – The residents say they do not know if they will have a roof over their heads tomorrow. They allege that their biggest problem is that some of them obtained their houses legally.
The 170 two-bedroom house project was donated by China as part of an agreement with Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) to alleviate the housing backlog in the area. The project was constructed by China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corporation and completed in 2014.
It has been mired in controversy since then. Initially the houses were supposed to provide free shelter for unemployed residents.

Later TCLM issued letters informing residents that they will have to pay for the low-income housing.
