MBOMBELA – Zamani Holdings held a housing handover in honour of 10 of their staff members and their families last Friday.
According to Charmaine Mabuza, group CEO of Zamani Holdings, the mother company under which Ithuba National Lottery operates, they bought land in Mbombela with the purpose of building houses for their staff members who are in the lower income bracket and could not afford decent housing on their own.
Mabuza said it was important for those in power to assist fellow South Africans to combat such challenges.
“South Africa is sitting with a housing delivery backlog that will cost billions of rand to address and in the meantime, it is the ordinary people who are impacted. These are people we see and interact with everyday. They are our colleagues, our employees and many others.
“As the leadership of Zamani, we believe that helping employees is a good place for business to start in order to help in addressing the backlog and helping our fellow citizens to have access to adequate housing,” said Mabuza.
The houses each consist of two bedrooms, a fully fitted bathroom, dining/living room and a kitchen already fitted with cupboards. They are also fitted with ceramic tiles.
According to Mabuza, the project is one of many initiatives that Zamani has rolled out under their Eric and Charmaine Mabuza Foundation. She said it offers scholarships to students from underprivileged backgrounds to help them pursue their academic goals once they have matriculated.
“Recently, Zamani, in partnership with Ithuba, recruited 11 interns who are graduates within various fields, as part of their commitment to supporting young people in kick-starting their careers by gaining relevant work experience.
“Currently, the foundation has opened applications for youth entrepreneurs to apply for the youth enterprise development programme, which is intended to assisting young business owners with formalising and growing their businesses,” added Mabuza.
The 10 houses for Zamani staff have been built in an estate-like site, which has been officially named Mabuza Village – after Adv Eric Mabuza and Charmaine Mabuza, who are the founders of the foundation.
