Weekend getaway at Misty Mountain

Nestled on the gorgeous Long Tom Pass, 31 kilometers from Lydenburg and 24 kilometers from Sabie is Misty Mountain – a 280 hectare South African Natural Heritage Site. The property is surrounded by mountainous countryside and is within easy reach of tourist hotspots: God’s Window, The Pinnacle, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon and the Kruger National Park. Its convenient location makes Misty Mountain the perfect base for a weekend of exploration.

The lodge offers a range of accommodation options: 2 sleeper units, 4 sleeper family units, 6 sleeper family units and a 10 sleeper farmhouse.

Each of the units are fitted with self-catering facilities: kitchenette with fridge, microwave oven, crockery and cutlery, tea and coffee stations. The also all have an en-suite bathroom, fireplaces, heating, private verandas and outdoor braais.

The 4 sleeper family units have two beds in the lounge, the 6 sleeper has an upstairs loft room with four beds; and the 10 sleeper farmhouse has three bedrooms, two upstairs loft rooms and three bathrooms.

The lodge is ideal for couples and families, with incredible facilities for all to enjoy. From a pub and TV lounge to an indoor games room, outdoor playground, curio shop, two swimming pools and a pool deck with spectacular views.

The restaurant on site is popular for its country cooking and offers an extensive a la carte menu and a children’s menu.

There is so much to see and do in the area, so a weekend can easily be spent enjoying a range of exciting activities.

The Long Tom Toboggan is located on-site and is a 1.7 kilometer track – the longest toboggan run in Africa. The track winds around the Mpumalanga’s Long Tom Pass mountains, reaching speeds of up to 45 kilometers an hour. The ride is three minutes in duration.

Other activities offered on-site include mountain biking, bird watching, quad biking, trout fishing, and various walking trails.

One can also explore the breathtaking scenery of the panorama route or visit the famous Kruger National Park for a big 5 safari experience.
