Son granted bail in his mother’s murder case in KaBokweni
The state prosecutor, the accused family and the investigating officer did not oppose his bail application.
A 30-year-old man arrested for the alleged murder of his 59-year-old mother, was released on R1 500 bail.
Jabulani Silinda from Mafampisa outside KaBokweni was granted bail by the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on June 19.
Silinda was not asked to plead to charges of murder, possession of a firearm, failure to lock a firearm in a prescribed safe, and discharging of a firearm in a public place.

The investigating officer, Sgt Linda Mbokane told the court how the offence had been committed.
“During my investigation I found that it was not Silinda’s intention to kill his mother. He did not fight with the SAPS and brought the weapon to the officials. All witnesses are related in this case,” testified Mbokane during the bail application.
He added that when he had discussed the possibility of the accused being granted bail with his family, they did not oppose it either.

According to Mbokane, the accused had been quarrelling with his two girlfriends at his home prior to the incident.
“He allegedly had a firearm in the house where they were arguing. One of the women managed run away while the other one wrestled with him for the firearm. She apparently managed to get it and threw it out of the house. She ran away and called for the accused’s mother. A wrestling match over the firearm ensued again, but this time it was between the accused and his mother, and that was when she was shot,” he said.
Mbokane told the court that the first witness saw the accused holding the firearm, which he later dropped to the ground.
Silinda’s mother was then rushed to hospital where she was declared dead upon arrival.
Passing his judgement, the magistrate, TL Maphophe, granted the accused bail.
“There are no bail conditions imposed by the court as the accused’s family was consulted and did not oppose it,” he said.
The matter was postponed to August 20 for further investigations.
