‘Stop violence,’ demand women and girls from churches in KaBokweni
Young and old women dressed in black, carried placards and baby clothing with messages speaking against the scourge of gender based violence.
A group of women and girls from different churches peacefully protested outside the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court last Thursday, calling for an end to gender-based violence (GBV).
“Enough is enough. Stop the violence against women and children. Respect my existence or expect my resistance. Stop GBV,” read some of the posters.
This happened on the day when a 35-year-old man accused of the rape of his 20-month-old child, was scheduled to apply for bail in court.

He was allegedly caught watching porn, naked and holding the child on the edge of the bed. He abandoned his bail application and the court postponed the matter to
August 17.
“As young women, we decided to leave the comfort of our homes to raise our voice against GBV. We are saying enough is enough with incidences of GBV happening in our area and different parts of the country,” said Loraine Mavuso.

She added that they were there to sympathise with all victims.
Rev Tiny Mathebula said men and women need to develop proper communication skills to solve their differences, other than ending up sexually abusing or killing each other.
“Let us sit down and solve issues to produce healthy families, a healthy and a responsible nation,” she said. She urged the justice system to impose harsher sentences on perpetrators of GBV.
