Ziweni Clinic reopened after Covid-19 case
Frustrated community members who alerted Lowvelder Express about the closure of the clinic, were left surprised at the news that it had been hit by Covid-19.
The Department of Health in the province has reopened the Pienaar-based Ziweni Clinic after it was temporarily closed on Monday and Tuesday.
This was done after a healthcare worker tested positive for Covid-19.
Frustrated community members who alerted Lowvelder Express about the closure of the clinic, were left surprised at the news that it had been hit by Covid-19.
“I am still shocked and surprised that this virus is real. I knew that it would one day come to our doorsteps, but I just didn’t expect it this soon. It really feels like a dream. I don’t know whether to go to another clinic or just go home,” said a shocked Grace Nobela, who came to the clinic for medical attention.

“Coronavirus is real and deadly,” said Dumisani Malamule, health department spokesperson.
Malamule, who confirmed that a nurse stationed at Ziweni Clinic was found to have contracted the virus, said it was closed for fumigation processes to be conducted.
“After one of our healthcare workers tested positive, we immediately closed it down to allow the decontamination processes to be thoroughly conducted.
“We started a tracing process to help find those who might have been in contact with the healthcare worker,” outlined Malamule.

He pleaded with the public to also continue adhering to the health regulations to help stop the spread of the virus.
“MEC Sasekani Manzini has time and again also pleaded with our people to take charge of their own lives and care for the lives of others by always wearing masks when in public spaces, regularly washing their hands and keeping to the required social distance.
“Let us protect ourselves and our healthcare workers by applying these safety regulations,” he urged.
