Old Mutual donate 35 water tanks to schools in Mpumalanga
The donation came at a time when the department's endeavours were channelled towards enhancing water supply and sanitation infrastructure in schools as per the health requirements in the fight against Covid-19.
Thirty-five new water tanks were recently donated to Mpumalanga schools thanks to Old Mutual.
The JoJo tanks were handed over to the Department of Education at the RotoTank premises last Friday.
“I was particularly moved when the call for schools to reopen was made and a further breakdown of shortages was announced. I discovered that there were schools around the province that would not have been able to open due to a lack of sanitation facilities, hence the idea to donate the Jojo tanks,” said Mathapelo Sipamla, the general manager of Old Mutual Mpumalanga.

“The department gave us a list of 35 schools and we managed to donate 35 JoJo tanks to them all.”
Sipamla added that Old Mutual leverages its position within the financial services industry to nurture an ecosystem that multiplies value for both customers and the communities within which it operates.
Sipamla added that the Old Mutual Group has supported a range of national initiatives to provide relief to customers, such as premium holidays during the country’s lockdown.
“Our customers must not be surprised to receive phone calls from our financial advisers. This is one way of trying to curb the spread of the pandemic and protect them in the process,” she said.
The donation was received by Sibusiso Zwane, acting chief director of education, Hazel Brukwe, the Ehlanzeni District director, and some of the school principals.

“Water supply and sanitation remain a challenge at certain schools and we are grateful to Old Mutual for ploughing back into our community at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic is rife. This donation will go a long way in protecting and saving lives,” he said.
Chressy Jele, the principal of Mbuyane Secondary School, said the donation will enhance teaching and learning at the school.
“We are so happy about this because it will alleviate the problem of water shortage and make the environment conducive and workable. We thank everyone who contributed to this donation,” she concluded.
