Truck driver dies in hospital

The road was closed for more than 10 hours.

A truck driver that was involved in a head-on collision on the R540 road between Dullstroom and Lydenburg died in Milpark Hospital shortly after his arrival.

Two trucks collided in the early hours of July 16. The road was closed for more than 10 hours.

According to fire chief, Deon Broekman of Rapid Response, the driver of the grocery truck was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries the same day.

“The driver of the other truck that was transporting timber was taken to Lydenburg Hospital. He sustained minor injuries in the collision.” Broekman said that it took the team hours to free the trapped drivers from the wreckages.
