Alleged rapist pastor released on bail in KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court

Sindane argued that releasing the accused on bail might cause a public outcry among community members.

A 38-year old pastor accused of raping a 14-year-old girl from Sifunindlela was released R4 000 bail by the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on July 31.
The accused will appear in court again on September 29.

The investigating officer, Sgt Nkosinathi Sindane, opposed the accused’s bail application.
Sindane argued that releasing the accused on bail might cause a public outcry among community members. He also told that the court that the accused was a possible threat to the victim as they are neighbours.

The accused’s legal representative, Adv Rodney Segage, pleaded with the court to grant this client bail because he was not a flight risk, he was a permanent resident of the area and had an alternative address where he could stay while on bail.

He also mentioned that the accused would not interfere with the witnesses while on bail.
Segage further stated that the accused had cooperated with the police during his arrest and was a pastor overseeing six branches of his church.

He allegedly raped the victim at the sport fields on July 26.
