University of Mpumalanga nearly engulfed in flames

Firefighters reacted promptly and prevented a raging blaze from consuming the University of Mpumalanga.
The university’s lapa, with thatched roofing, caught fire and burnt to the ground this morning.
As it was starting to spread to the nearby bush, the Mbombela Local Municipality’s fire unit quickly responded and prevented it from causing further damage.
It is unclear how the blaze began as investigations are only in the beginning stages.
The City of Mbombela’s Disaster Management Unit said it will only comment once it has concluded its investigation and a report has been submitted.
The university was also unavailable for comment.
