BURGERSFORT – Limpopo has reportedly recorded its first Covid-19-related fatalities of healthcare workers after two local doctors succumbed to the virus.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Health on Friday, the two doctors, aged 57 and 47, are the first cases of healthcare workers to die of Covid-19- related complications in the province.

The deceased, whose names are not being released, were both general practitioners working for their own independent practices, according to the department. It was further established that they died while receiving treatment at two different private health facilities in Polokwane.

In a voice clip made available to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, health MEC Phophi Ramathuba said they were among the most committed and dedicated healthcare workers in the province.

She conveyed her sincere condolences to their families, friends and colleagues and commented that the two had fought hard to defeat the virus, but unfortunately lost the battle.
