Creativity and skills were demonstrated during the “bake a cake for charity” competition at Longtom SUPERSPAR.

This was the supermarket’s way of celebrating its 57th birthday.

The cakes were all baked by local residents. There were three categories and contestants had the opportunity to win fantastic prizes.

Leana Luies, the organiser, said they received about 36 cakes, each with an original and unique design. “The winners in each of the categories won SPAR vouchers and hampers.”

After the judging and the competition, all the cakes were taken to three local facilities which were Rusoord,Wenakker and Kannabas Ouetehuis.

The winners in the adult category, from first to sixth place were Carol Peters, Juan Botha, Sanri de Beer, Lindie Welgemoed, Henry Crause and Marna Malan.

In the high school category the winners were Werner Venter, Mené Welgemoed, Mia Broodryk, Mieke Grobler, Keira Marcé.

Keira was awarded both fifth and sixth place. The winners in the younger category, which were for primary school entrants were Elandri Meintjies, Megan Kruger, Kylie Marcé, Ilse Roos, Anya Becker and Cloe Mance. Luies said they appreciate all the support they received from the locals.

“SPAR is proud to be part of the community. You have all outdone yourselves and thanks to your participation we will be able to do what we had planned. Congratulations to all those who participated,” she said. Winners will receive their prizes during the course of this week.
