Golf players have unpacked their clubs and are once again swinging away at Lydenburg Golf Club.

Lockdown level 2 permits golfers to play and compete in this popular sport.

Club manager, Sybrand De Fortier said, “We have small competitions every week and every month-end we host the Windhoek Lager tournament.”

This local club makes sure that the risk mitigation plan (RMP) is followed as required by Golf RSA.

“We screen, sanitise and practise social distancing. We also make sure every time a cart is used it gets washed and sanitised before it is used again,” he said.

De Fortier said due to the financial challenges that the entire country is facing, they had to make some changes to accommodate their players.

“The committee of Lydenburg Golf Club has embarked on a new initiative from September. Members of the community in and around the Lydenburg region can now play at membership rates from the first to the 10th of every month. We want the community to get involved and actively participate in sport through the game of golf.”

“Members’ rates are for any round of golf over nine or 18 holes from Monday to Sunday. Cart fees and caddie fees will be paid for as normal. On Saturdays and public holidays in this period, community rounds will be limited to no later than a 08:30 tee-off and after 15:00. This is to accommodate full members who are participating in club competitions on the day.”

On Thursdays and Fridays, competitions are organised by the Sages (players 50 years and older), as well as the club.
De Fortier said participating players normally tee off at around noon in these competitions. He added that community players are welcome to participate in these competitions, but that they must play off a scratch handicap if they do not have an official one.

Companies, which are interested in buying member-rated rounds for the month, are welcome to contact him for more information. These rounds are valid for the month in which it is bought.
