It was a competitive game for bowlers during Lydenburg Bowling Club’s open day on Saturday. Twelve teams of three players each gathered to compete against each other.

Local bowlers, teams from Sabie, Hazyview, White River, Secunda, Witbank, Groblersdal, Rustenburg, Pretoria, Duiwelskloof and Nelspruit, gathered at the local club to participate in this fun day. Playing their favourite game and having fun was the main objective, although the R5 000 first prize ensured that players gave of their utmost best.

Lydenburg Bowling Club provided an excellent opportunity for bowlers to gather in a safe and regulated environment to share their love for the game. Bowls SA provided strict guidelines for bowling clubs to open up again and the local club followed all the measures on that day.

With bowls being allowed back during lockdown level two, clubs have had to reassess their viability and plot a way forward to ensure that they continue to provide an opportunity for their members to play the game that they enjoy.

According to Dave Jones, one of the bowlers, each team played three games in which positions were changed to introduce some novel aspect to the competition. “The team of Jimmy Holloway (Secunda), Michael O Conner Snr and Johnty Rhodes (both from Pretoria Military) were the overall winner.”
