Massive drop in Covid-19 cases in Sekhukhune

To date, SDM has 2 561 cumulative Covid-19 cases, active ones are 79  (3,08 per cent), recoveries 2 446 (95,5 per cent), while fatalities are 26 (1,4 per cent).

BURGERSFORT – Covid-19 cases have massively declined in Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM).

To date, SDM has 2 561 cumulative Covid-19 cases, active ones are 79  (3,08 per cent), recoveries 2 446 (95,5 per cent), while fatalities are 26 (1,4 per cent).

According to the District Command  Council (DCC), the figures mean that Sekhukhune has finally contained the spread of the virus. This is supported by the fact that infection rates from all the four local municipalities have significantly decreased.

The message from SDM remains, “Irrespective of alert level 1, residents are  urged to place themselves under voluntary lockdown.

We are calling upon all our  people to be extremely vigilant by wearing their face masks at all times while in public, sanitising and washing their hands with water and soap.

“Equally, we urge our people to attend funerals of close relatives only and avoid mass gatherings. Another vital request is for our people to use online banking and avoid ATMs which prove to be very dangerous. Simply
put, combating the spread of Covid-19 is still  in the hands of our people themselves,” said Cllr Orginia Mafefe, acting chairperson of  the DCC.

The DCC also heard that the spread of Covid-19 in the mines which were previously hotspots has been contained.

“That does not mean that prevention measures are being relaxed. However, individuals, schools, churches, companies, traditional authorities, and everybody, are urged to be vigilant during this time,” she added.
