Thaba Chweu Boarding School received an R500 000 multimedia centre last week. The Department of Education, in collaboration with the MTN Foundation, handed over the fully resourced media centre on Tuesday.

The MTN foundation donated the multimedia centre and it will also provide the school with mobile data for 12 months. According to the deputy principal of the school, Christa Muller, the school is excited and thrilled to receive the multimedia centre.

“We are glad to know that our grade nine learners will be able to have computer classes next year in their grade 10 syllabus. Staff members are currently going through training so that they can learn how to utilise the computers we received. “We are hoping to obtain even more in the future so that we can be able to teach all the learners with ease,” she said.

MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, expressed his heartfelt gratitude indicating that the multimedia centre will contribute more towards enhancing e-learning and technological studies at the boarding school.

“It is about time that the Fourth Industrial Revolution becomes a reality to our learners, especially those who are from the disadvantaged communities. Indeed, such contributions will play a critical role in the advancement of learning in our schools.

Digitisation is the future as a result our learners from the disadvantaged communities should not be left behind,” said Majuba. The boarding school was opened early this year. Last year the department closed eight schools in the area and the learners were transferred to the boarding school.
