BURGERSFORT – Laerskool Burgersfort recently held its annual Arbor Day ceremony, which coincided with its Spring Day celebrations.

The event was also a tribute to people who have succumbed to Covid-19 coronavirus.
The school could not celebrate the occasion on August 31 due to regulations surrounding the pandemic.Pupils from grades R to seven attended a short, detailed information session about how to plant, fertilise
and water a tree.

They also drew pictures of trees and the drawings were displayed in the school’s library. Each class planted their trees in the schoolyard.
“The commemorative tree planting is a remembrance and commemoration of all front-line professionals and workers who dedicated their efforts towards preventing and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic and to those who have
fallen as a result of being infected with the virus,” said teacher, Anna Botha.

The senior phase educators planted a wild plum (Harpephyllum Caffum) on the school grounds, while the grade
ones planted tomatoes and carrots next to the athletics field.
