Young Ga Maroga woman stabbed to death
He confirmed that a 31-year-old male was later arrested along the R37 after he had been hit by a vehicle while trying to evade arrest.
BURGERSFORT – A 22-year-old woman was stabbed to death by a man at Ga Maroga last Thursday.
The murder happened at Ga Moime section at about 08:00.
Naume Sodi was allegedly killed in her shack in front of her 16-month-old son. The family is still traumatised.
According to the deceased’s brother, Molahlegi Sodi, the suspect killer used a sharp object.“I was one of the first people to arrive at the scene. She had three wounds on her neck. She also had severe stab wounds on
her left arm as well as on her back. My sister was in a pool of blood when I arrived.
The young boy (her son) was lying on her stomach. He was also bloodied and was crying uncontrollably. I don’t know what this monster used to kill my sister, but it must have been a sharp object. The wounds
were severe, her throat was slightly cut, she died a painful death,” cried the brother.
The deceased was described as a devoted Christian by her relatives and friends.
“She would never harm a fly. She was a perfect mother to her two young boys. It’s sad that they are now motherless,” added her aunt, Francina Sodi.
Limpopo SAPS’ spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said, “It is alleged that the neighbours were alarmed by the deceased’s frantic screams coming from the shack and immediately went there to investigate. Upon
arrival, the man came out running. They then entered the home and were shocked to find the deceased in a pool of blood with open wounds on her body.
“The police were notified, responded immediately, commenced with the investigations and manhunt ensued to track down the suspect.”
He confirmed that a 31-year-old male was later arrested along the R37 after he had been hit by a vehicle while trying to evade arrest.
“He is presently in hospital for medical treatment, under police guard. A case of murder has been opened and the motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
The provincial commissioner of Limpopo SAPS, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, has condemned in the strongest possible terms the continuous acts of gender-based violence and femicide across the province.
“Innocent lives cannot continue to be lost in the hands of ruthless people and as society we need to stand together and support the police against the killing of women and children in Limpopo. Those who are experiencing domestic-related challenges are advised to approach the readily available facilities in their area rather than resorting to violence,” concluded Ledwaba.
The Sodi family refuted claims that the suspect was the deceased’s partner.
“All we know is that he is from Ntswaneng Village. We are unaware of any affair between the two. Naume had a partner who was known to the family. People must stop spreading unfounded rumours,” warned Francina.
According to the family, Naume will be buried at Ga Maroga Cemetery on Saturday
morning.
She leaves behind two sons, aged seven and 16 months. The suspect is expected to appear in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge
of murder as soon as he is discharged from hospital.
