Stop the violence
Gender-based violence is deeply rooted in gender inequality, and continues to be one of the most notable human rights violations. It has escalated in Lydenburg and Mashishing.
Stakeholders will use the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign to highlight this initiative.
The Lydenburg SAPS hosted a planning meeting on Wednesday November 11 with the Step Foundation, the media, Mashishing churches, the Department of Health, Thulare Missions and the Christelike Maatskaplike Raad (CMR). On November 25 the stakeholders, churches and schools will march to the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court. One group will start walking from the four-way crossing at Kellysville and the another from Morgan Nissan (corner of Voortrekker and Viljoen streets) at 10:00. They will meet at the court at 11:00 to hand over a memorandum.

The stakeholders will have information days at schools and the community to discuss gender-based violence. On November 26, Thulare Missions and the Step Foundation will be at the Thaba Chweu Boarding School to discuss human trafficking and violence against women and children. The SAPS will be at Skhila High School on November 30 and December 1.
A mass prayer meeting will take place on December 10 in Voortrekker Street. People will be able to sign a pledge to commit their support for gender-based violence. Other dates will be announced later.
