Multiple arrests in Ohrigstad

OHRIGSTAD - A successful Rural Safety Operation resulted in multiple arrests and fines being issued by the Ohrigstad SAPS last week. 

They were joined by police members from Leboeng, Mecklenburg, Sekhukhune District and the Limpopo Provincial Traffic.

The Ohrigstad Farm Patrollers, private security firms, community policing forum, Youth Against Crime, Young Civilian on Patrol and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design assisted in the operation.
The team of 42 members was briefed by WO Karel Beetge of the Sekhukhune District and the station commander of Ohrigstad SAPS, Capt Jeanette Nape, before conducting the roadblock at the R36 Ohrigstad and R555 Burgersfort junction.

The following successes were achieved: 240 vehicles were looked through, and 781 people and 399 pieces of hand luggage were searched.
Six undocumented people and two lawbreakers were arrested for drinking and driving under the influence.

The police also fined two people for illegal gambling, 12 offenders were fined for liquor-related offences and six road users in terms of the Road Traffic Act.
