Alcohol and dagga bust
LYDENBURG - The police destroyed illegal alcohol and confiscated drugs worth a combined R100 000 recently.
“In the past few months police have confiscated dagga to the value of R80 000.
“This has been possible due to the community helping us with tips and raids at illegal shebeens,” said Capt Kaizer Moela of Lydenburg Police Station.

The local SAPS have also confiscated illegal alcohol over the past few months.
It was disposed of on Thursday December 3.
That same afternoon the dagga was taken to a sawmill outside town and burned.
The police officials and the media watched as brands like Southern Comfort, Savana, Red Heart Rum, J&B and Klipdrift were poured into a drain, and bags of dagga went up in smoke.
Some of the liquor had passed its expiry date and certain tavern owners had even made their own alcohol.
“We find that some of the alcohol is home-made and that the shebeen owners would stick the labels on themselves,” Moela said.
